Gilbert LLP Secures Freedom for Persecuted Immigrant

On March 20, 2020, Gilbert LLP successfully prevented the deportation of a Honduran man under terms of the Convention Against Torture (“CAT”).  Gilbert’s client, a 19-year old Honduran who escaped persecution at the hands of deadly Honduran street gangs, was granted deferral of removal, a CAT designation which prohibits deportation to a country where it is more likely than not that he will be tortured. The young man had been detained for over nine months at the time Gilbert took his case, which was referred to the firm by the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition (“CAIR Coalition”). The client was represented pro bono by Gilbert LLP attorney Jasmine Chalashtori with the assistance of law clerk Janet Sanchez.
