Gilbert LLP Lauds Purdue Bankruptcy Confirmation

D.C.-BASED GILBERT ONE OF SEVERAL LEADING LAW FIRMS FOR GOVERNMENT CLAIMANTS IN MULTIPLE OPIOID MATTERS

Gilbert LLP, a Washington, D.C. law firm specializing in complex dispute resolution, today heralded the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York’s confirmation of the bankruptcy settlement in In Re: Purdue Pharma L.P. as “historic and transformative.”

Gilbert played a central role in negotiating the terms of the Purdue bankruptcy settlement among all opioid creditors, the Purdue debtors, and the Sacklers.  The firm serves as mass tort, deal, and insurance counsel to the Ad Hoc Committee of Supporting Governmental Entities in the matter, representing States and Territories, Cities and Counties, and Native American Tribes throughout the United States.  The settlement will result in an unprecedented multi-billion-dollar opioid-abatement trust dedicated solely to addressing the national opioid crisis at state and local levels.

Gilbert is deeply involved in several other opioid matters across the U.S. on behalf of government claimants, including state court litigation, federal multidistrict litigation, insurance coverage matters, ongoing settlement negotiations, and additional bankruptcy proceedings.

“The pain, destruction and overall damage caused by the opioid crisis throughout America is harrowing, and it continues,” said Scott Gilbert, the firm’s Founder and Chairman, and one of the primary architects and chief negotiators of the settlement in Purdue.  “It is vital not only that we hold those accountable who bear responsibility, but that we assure recovered funds are used effectively and efficiently to abate this crisis.  We believe this settlement meets this goal with respect to Purdue; the settlement will provide considerable essential resources dedicated to opioid abatement and will serve as a model for other such resolutions to follow.”
